Diving Course: Junior Open Water Scuba Diver

The Junior Open Water Scuba Diver course is specially designed for children and teens ages 10 to 14, giving them the opportunity to learn scuba diving in a safe and supervised environment, guided by certified instructors and professional dive masters.

 

During the course, students will learn how to:

  • Breathe underwater using scuba equipment
  • Control their buoyancy
  • Communicate underwater through hand signals
  • Understand and protect the marine environment
  • Learn basic physiology and diving safety concepts

 

This course helps children build confidence, discipline, teamwork skills, and respect for the ocean and nature.

 

Requirements for the Junior Open Water Scuba Diver Course:

  • 10 to 14 years old
  • At age 15, the student can upgrade to the Open Water Scuba Diver certification for adults

 

Medical restrictions:

  • For safety reasons, your child should not participate in scuba diving if they have diabetes, heart problems, uncontrolled hypertension, respiratory conditions, or are under medical treatment that limits physical activity. Parents will be asked to complete the official medical form before the course begins.

Schedule

Schedule:

  • Day 1 – San Pedro, Montes de Oca

The student must read the book. An in-person or virtual session is then held to reinforce key topics, answer questions, and coordinate the scuba diving tour.

  • Day 2 – Playas del Coco, Guanacaste

Pool practice sessions

  • Day 3 – Playa Ocotal, Guanacaste

Two shore dives are conducted. As these are shallow dives (maximum 7 meters), students will feel safe and comfortable.

  • Day 4 – Coco Beaches, Guanacaste:

Two boat dives in open water (maximum depth: 12 meters / 40 feet). At the end, students will be ready to earn their Junior Open Water Scuba Diver Certification.

Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian and must be present when they are being helped to put on their diving equipment. If the accompanying person is a certified diver, they would pay a special price of $100 for the dives; if they are not a diver, they would pay $50 as a rider.
